Behavioural Consultations for Dogs

Helping you to find that place

When our beloved dogs face difficulties it can be a distressing and daunting experience, often leaving us with a sense of isolation. Despite seeking assistance from various sources, the abundance of contradictory guidance can add to the confusion, making it incredibly challenging to determine the best path to follow.

A behavioural consultation will:

  • Help you to establish the underlying motivations for the behavioural concerns.
  • Provide initial management advice to relieve much of the stress and/or safety concerns.
  • Provide advice that is practical, transparent and tailored to your needs and the needs of your individual dog.
  • Help you to create environments that set your dog up to succeed, in order to help them to make the right decisions.
  • Help you to understand why the problems have developed and how to avoid future problems.

Common problems seen:

  • Aggression
  • Dog to dog reactivity
  • General anxiety and stress
  • Separation-related problems
  • Noise phobias and sound sensitivities
  • Compulsive disorders
  • House soiling and indoor urine marking
  • Barking at home, on walks or in the car
  • Food or object guarding
  • Handling problems including grooming, veterinary examination
  • Handling problem during daily tasks such as drying paws or clipping nails
  • Chasing/hunting problems

Dogs base a lot of their decisions on what is safe and what is dangerous. So, while their behaviour may often seem like a matter of choice, they are often just trying to survive in a world that they don't always understand.  Finding ways to communicate with them without judgement or force will, therefore, help you to develop a relationship based on trust and understanding.
And this is where the magic really begins!!
